1. Senate speaks on when 2019 national budget will be passed
The Nigeria Senate has said it will pass the 2019 appropriation bill on April 16.
President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, who made the announcement at plenary on Tuesday, mandated the appropriation committee to submit its report between April 9 and 11.
2. Court disqualifies Adeleke as PDP guber candidate
An Abuja High Court on Tuesday, nullified the nomination of Senator Ademola Adeleke as candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in the September 22, 2018 governorship election in Osun state.
Two chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Wahab Raheem and Adam Habeeb, had dragged Adeleke to court accusing him of not possessing the requisite educational qualification (secondary school certificate), to contest for the office of Governor.
3. Rivers Governorship Election Result: Amaechi loses LGA to Wike
The results from the resumed collation of results for the governorship poll in Rivers State by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has started trickling in.
In Ikwerre local government area where Rotimi Amaechi, minister of transportation hails from, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) got 14, 938 votes while the African Action Congress (AAC) polled 5, 660.
4. 2019 UTME: JAMB fixes a new date for printing of exam slip
The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board have announced a new date for the printing of the 2019 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination slip.
JAMB’s Head of Media and Publicity, Dr Fabian Benjamin disclosed the change in an interview with newsmen on Tuesday in Abuja.
5. NAF alpha jets destroy terrorists’ hideout, kill top leaders in Borno State
The Air Task Force (ATF) of Operation LAFIYA DOLE has significantly degraded an Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) Terrorists’ Hideout and neutralized some of its leaders and fighters at Magari on the fringes of Lake Chad in the Northern part of Borno State.
This was accomplished in an air interdiction mission conducted yesterday, 1 April 2019, following credible intelligence reports indicating that some senior ISWAP leaders arrived the settlement on Friday, 30 April 2019, along with some of their fighters.
6. Court dismisses suit attempting to stop collation of Rivers governorship election result
The suit filed by the African Action Congress (AAC) seeking to stop the collation of the March 9 governorship and house of assembly elections in Rivers State has been dismissed by a high court sitting in Abuja.
The party had gone to court to challenge the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to continue the collation of election results in the state.
7. Biafra: Nnamdi Kanu describes Justice Nyako as ignorant over his bail denial
Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra on Tuesday called out Justice Binta Nyako of the Abuja Federal High Court for his denying him bail.
The IPOB leader in his reaction stated that the judge in-charge of the trial was ignorant of the Nigerian constitution.
8. INEC reveals when it will decide on Zamfara APC primary
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says it will wait for the decision of the Supreme Court before taking any action on the primary elections of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Zamfara State.
Naija News recalls that INEC withheld certificates of return of the state Governor-elect, Mukhtar Shehu, following the judgment of the Court of Appeal in Sokoto.
9. Mind your business, APC warns Saraki
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has warned Senate President Bukola Saraki and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to mind their own business as far as the election of principal officers of the National Assembly is concerned.
Saraki had advised political party leaders to allow lawmakers to choose their leaders on the day of inauguration in order to achieve stability of the 9th Assembly.
10. PDP wins all senatorial districts in Rivers State
All three senatorial districts in Rivers State for which the election was conducted have been won by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
George Sekibo (Rivers East), Bari Mpigi (Rivers South East) and Betty Apiafi (Rivers West) defeated their opponents, to ensure a clean swoop for the party.
