Edo 2020: Why APC Shouldn’t Field Obaseki – Group

The Concerned Progressives of Edo State has warned the National Leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) against fielding Governor Godwin Obaseki in the 2020 governorship election.

In a statement signed by its Coordinator, Jessica Imade, the group accused the governor of dividing the party.

It noted that the party needs a candidate that will reconcile and unite the party members and not a candidate “who has said on several occasions he does not care about the welfare of citizens.”

The statement reads in part: “When Comrade Oshiomhole was governor of Edo State, the party was united, people were happy because they were given that sense of belonging. The current governor Obaseki who was unknown to many was able to be made governor due to Oshiomhole’s goodwill.

“But today, he chased politicians away and made the party so unattractive. This group intends to fight for the soul of Edo APC so that we will not repeat the mistake we made in 2016 when Oshiomhole made Obaseki governor.

“We will ensure that only a politician emerges as the candidate of the APC so that contracts are given to Edo people and not foreigners or those caring laptops at Osadebey Avenue. Oshiomhole begged almost all the politicians in Edo to help make Obaseki governor but today they said politicians are thieves.

“It is laughable to see that those who squandered the election funds are endorsing the governor so as to cover their shameful acts.

“All these people including the governor lost their wards and Local Governments in the just concluded presidential and National Assembly elections so they have no moral rights to talk about a second term unless they are saboteurs in APC that wants to hand over the state to PDP.

“The APC national leadership must ensure that the right person emerges as candidate of APC and not people who will lose an election like they lost their wards and LGAs recently” it stated.
